East Quay Wedding | Simms and Dave

Clients.
Both Simms and Dave live in Los Angeles and both are actors, with Dave also being a very good headshot photographer. Tough clients to please as Dave has an outstanding knowledge of photography and especially likes film photography. In our discussions leading up to the wedding about all things related to photography I decided to shoot most of this wedding on the Leica Q and Leica S as well as my trusty Sony A9.
Venue.
East Quay wedding venue is in Whitstable right on the coast. I guess you would call it an Oyster shack. Wooden in design with so much atmosphere its the kind of place I rarely get to shoot at. It has a mezzanine floor for the ceremony whilst the ground floor is set aside for the reception and evening celebrations. I loved shooting there and the opportunities it provided for wedding photography were really inspirational.
Ceremony.
The ceremony took place at East Quay wedding venue. The weather however was appalling. Driving rain set in about 10 minutes before Simms arrived in her tiny vintage car. Once she had skilfully negotiated her exit from the car and avoided getting soaked the ceremony began. Two of the couples friends performed an hilarious tribute to the couple with a song written by them and both mothers took part in a very emotional ring ceremony.
Reception.
If you like Oysters you would have loved this. Fresh oysters were opened and served throughout the drinks reception. Ive never tasted an oyster and quite honestly although I love fish it just not something that has appealed to me.
A wonderful meal followed by some highly emotional speeches followed and the evening was rounded off with a Ceili and ice cream van.
Thanks to everyone for making me feel really welcome. I loved photographing this wedding and when you have an instant connection with the couple it makes my job an absolute joy. Wedding photography is not all about producing great images, its also about getting to know the people you are photographing. Once you have achieved that great images will follow.
