So here it is, after working all day yesterday through until 2.00am to get this finished I completed all the editing and putting together of a slideshow of my day with Martyn, Sally and their 2 wonderful children.

I explained to both Sally and Martyn that this was certainly not going to be like a studio shoot I know they had from a renowned studio that rhymes with denture. This was going to be a walts and all document of their day, the tears, the happiness and the joy of being a parent and having 2 great kids. I shot for 10 hours and they will receive 450 images on disc to do what they like with. From a photographers point of view and speaking as a father to 2 great children myself I know I would love this, as we dont have many if any images of all 4 of us as either Anita or I are the ones taking the photos, sometimes even Max, whose only 3, has a go, but he hasn’t yet mastered off camera flash and so struggles a bit..:)

Anyway here are some of my faves and a slideshow, I used some audio at the beginning and end of this show, hope you like it.

Phillip Allen ( June 18, 2009 9:35 pm ) Beautiful work and fantastically important too. I recently delivered a presentation to a group of school teachers based (a little tongue in cheek, though only a little perhaps!) around the title 'The psycho psychology of second child syndrome and memory indexing - photographically speaking', that explored the importance of photographs for enshrining childhood memories and even helping to fill the gaps where nothing lingers in the mind. I have thousands of photos of my toddler as she grows but it strikes me viewing this blog entry I have relatively few of her and I together! Must rectify that :~)

Tamara ( February 26, 2009 10:15 pm ) Such inspirational images and so perfectly captured! True family life. You can really get a sense and emotion of the day! Congratulations!

Sally & Martyn ( February 26, 2009 9:10 pm ) Thankyou David for such lovely photos and for a day that we will all remember, Olivia is still talking about it! We cannot think of a better way of capturing family life and would recommend this concept to anyone who wishes to have some truly wonderful photos of their family. David you made us all feel really at ease and luckily there were no tantrums on the day which is really rare in our house! Now all we have to do is pick our favourite ones to put up which means we too will be up until 2am trying to decide.

Clair Bruce ( February 25, 2009 8:13 pm ) What a great way of capturing a family together. Fantastic pics that will be really treasured. Great work as always!

Gavin ( February 25, 2009 3:40 pm ) Thoroughly enjoyed watching. As a father, this stuff is priceless. Great work!

Jon ( February 24, 2009 6:52 pm ) Absolutely stunning work David, great stuff

Sammy ( February 24, 2009 5:06 pm ) Stunning pictures I'm sure Sally & Martyn will treasure. What a trooper too, staying up till 2am to make the edit!

Document the Day-A family Story

After having posted some images of a day I shot with past clients of mine, I have quite a few emails asking if this is a service I was now offering. Initially it started as a one-off, however I decided to book in a few more and see how it all develops. I recently was fortunate enough to document a workshop in Dallas and the thing that struck me most was the American appetite for photographs, they dont mind what you shoot and they dont have all these rules and regulations about what you can and can’t shoot. I remember telling them stories of how I was not allowed to take photographs at my childrens nativity play and they were astounded. So documenting a day is also as much an exercise in convincing my clients that its good fun and a wonderful memory to have as they grow older.

Sally and Martin and their 2 beautiful children live in Plymouth, I spent all day yesterday with them from 9.00am until bedtime for the children, documenting their day, we had great fun and I even managed to thrash Marin and his Dad on the Wii…….

Here are 2 of the images that initially grabbed me whilst doing my first edit.
