Anna and Nathan were married at Polhawn Fort, which has to be one of the most beautiful and darkest venues I have shot at. It has beautiful views across the sea and when you get a nice day the light is a joy to work with.

Here are some of their images.

Last year I was lucky enough to go to Dallas and attend a workshop hosted and run by some of the finest wedding photographers in the world. Last year I was a student at the workshop, my team leader Tyler helped me develop into a better photographer and the experience was quite amazing. My good friend Anil and I returned from a week of intense shooting and critique, physically and emotionally shattered, but crucially we both felt we had learnt loads. Foundation Workshop is run by Huy Nguyen and Bill Holland, it attracts photographers from all over the US, Canada and a few of us from the UK. Team leaders included, Brooks Whittington, Amy Deputy, Greg Gibson, and Marc Adams from La Cour, and other photographers who have experienced the workshop in years past help out, last year David Murray, Ben Chrisman, Sergio and Joe Dickie, to name a few attend just to experience the atmosphere and to help in any way possible.

The workshop is based around improving and understanding the art of documenting an event, each person is given an assignment, they don’t know what that assignment is until maybe 1 hour before they are due to arrive. Photographers then stay at this assignment for 2 days, returning in the evening to have their work critiqued. Its long , long days and even longer nights of individual and group critiquing. Not for the faint hearted or those precious about their work. I remember sitting in the hot seat last year having my images critiqued by Tyler thinking what am i doing here, but once i got past the fact that i actually wasn’t as good as I thought I was I started to take it all in and learn from people who have so much to offer.

This year I am very lucky that Huy has kindly agreed to let me help out with the workshop, I have no idea what I will be doing yet, possibly driving photographers to their assignments, who knows, its the spirit of the week that I want to experience again, its so addictive. Its hard to explain what the pull of this event is, but being with a group of like minded people all willing to share and help each other improve is something very rarely found in the UK.

I cant wait to see all the friends that I made last year and meet new and interesting people, I’ll try to blog as many images as I can, if and when i get the time.

Here are some of the images from my assignment last year, a skateboard park in Dallas, the assignment was to document the people and the activities that went on from day to day.

Freezing…. thats about the first word that comes to mind when I look at these images. Bovey Castle sits in Dartmoor National Park, and Dartmoor in January is one of the coldest places in the UK. When I arrived I looked at the car temperature gauge and it was -6C, and that was about as warm as it got. Bovey is a beautiful venue, one of the nicest in Devon, Alia and Paul’s wedding was glorious, both were really chilled on the day and it was a pleasure documenting it. They seem to have organised everything, with nearest the pin, in the dark, being my favourite, I think my ball ended up further away than it originally started. Alia’s father is from the Middle East and one of the funniest things all day was one of her father’s friends, doing his George W Bush impression of an interview he gave before hitting a golf ball, it was hilarious.

So here are the images from their day and a longer than normal slideshow at the bottom.

Enjoy..

I love this next one, this is the reaction to Alia’s mum seeing her in her dress,
